Bryan ISD GEAR UP

Texas A&M University
College Station, Texas

Starting in 2008, Bryan ISD GEAR UP faculty partnered with Texas A&M University to unite school districts, community organizations, and other businesses to work toward the common goal of improving school completion and college attendance rates. From job shadowing with the city of Bryan to dispensing college “tips of the week” from TAMU and Blinn College, Bryan ISD GEAR UP offers many ways to boost the level of success for students. The project caters to the individual needs of its students, offering self-determination and advocacy training for students with disabilities and collaborating with service agencies to provide mental-health counseling for those most at risk. The team at Bryan ISD GEAR UP also offers resources for parents and educators—including TAMU-sponsored workshops on scholarship opportunities and collegiate financial support.
