Texas A&M University-Kingsville GEAR UP Partnership


In the south Texas cities of Corpus Christi and Kingsville, the Texas A&M University-Kingsville GEAR UP Partnership (TKGU) will serve the most at-risk middle schools in the area by providing students with services intended to boost their school attendance, performance, and college readiness through the end of their senior year in high school. The project will provide for age-targeted approaches to furthering college readiness and attendance by implementing strategies like after-school tutoring, financial aid advisement, career counseling, college visits, and summer academic programs. Program Highlights

  • Texas A&M University-Kingsville’s (TAMUK) highly specialized Office for Student Access is using their established community ties and years of previous experience to serve as the main supplier of TKGU services.
  • The grant is helping to create a college-going culture by bringing in advisors from TAMUK that will be based at each participating GEAR UP school.
  • TKGU partners include: Kingsville ISD, Corpus Christi ISD, Kaplan, Pearson, Boys and Girls Club (Corpus Christi and Kingsville), and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
