Introduction for Educators: Students often have little idea of what their intended work field looks like or what they'll need to do on a regular basis to be successful. If we can give them a realistic glimpse of what an adult schedule and responsibility looks like, it will help them shape their academic and professional development.
Introduction for Students: What does a daily routine look like for your dream job? What skills will you use on a daily basis? What should you be doing now to best prepare yourself for those skills?
The Activity: Write a letter to one of your role models who's in the career path you hope to follow in and formally request that they allow you to shadow them for a day or two at their job to see what a normal day's routine looks like. Then share with them your own fears, goals, and expectations.
